Which is the best tagline?
January 29th, 2008I need your help. I can’t believe how long it’s taking me to come up with the right tagline for Do Good Design. A tagline is that one sentence right near your logo that tells people what you’re about.
Right now, it’s “Websites for people who do what they love.” But that’s not quite right. As Nick Usborne told me, “Porn producers may love what they do, but it’s not exactly who you’d want to work with.” Yikes.
What Do Good Design is about making websites for ethical, green or do-gooding businesses. Helping “social enterprises” and “conscious businesses” get websites that help them be successful on the internet.
How do I explain that in 8 words or less? I’ve wrestled with this for a year, so I’m turning to others to help me. If you have a quick moment, would you vote and let me know what you think best explains what we do?

If my taglines are all crap, what would be better? Suggest away!

Two great alternatives already suggested:
“Making the world a better place, one website at a time.”
“Websites for doing good, done well”
Me likey.
Rachel,
Your original tagline reminds me of that tshirt company with the logo, “do what you like, like what you do.” I recently watched an interview with the two founding entrepreneurs and it seems they’ve hit the motherlode with that logo and also with their “life is good” logo. Here is the link:

It would be great if you had something similar that didn’t seem like it was ripping them off… tricky!
My first job after graduation was with Rodale Press, the health and fitness publisher. Their company motto used to be, “We empower people to live their best life.” I think they have since changed it to, “Live your whole life.” I like those sentiments but don’t quite know how to link something similar to them to your website design services.
I will keep pondering! Good luck!
Thanks for that Kristina. I checked out their website because I’d never heard of them. What I like, and hopefully have in common with them, is they’re about being yourself, and enjoying life.
But not in a fakey, everything’s perfect kind of way.
And still the quest goes on…
My former chiropractor in Philly had a sign in his office: Changing the Planet, One Spine at a Time. Maybe substitute Website for Spine? World for Planet? I like the one you have, but if you don’t like it, then that’s no good.
Or some variation on 6, like ‘building a better world one website at a time’ ?
We work to make your website work
Well…I put in a suggestion. Not sure if it fits in with your ideas. Hopefully it is considered.
Plant Life~~Plant Trees……..
Only problem with some of them is, like the porn example, then you have eco-terrorists wanting to use your services.
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments, everyone. I really appreciate your insight.
What’s interesting is that there doesn’t seem to be one that really grabs people, though “Making the world a better place, one website at a time” is in the lead. Perhaps because it’s more personal, tagline-y sounding?
Trying to sum up what you do, what you stand for, in one sentence is tough. I don’t know how any of the ancient cultures managed to sum up the essence of a person in one word, their name.
“Websites for making this Planet a better place!”
“Websites for The Good Cause!”
Cheers,
Bengt.
aka Ben Oscarsito.
“Making the world a better place, one website at a time.” Sounds overly familiar. Too cliche maybe.
“Websites for doing good, done well” = perfect as is.
I’d def. go with one of those, and it looks like most agree thus far.
“Websites that help you make the world a better place.” seems too choppy. Doesn’t roll off the tongue. Maybe “Websites that help you help the world.” Or something like that.
I love what you’re doing, so I hope you find one that works for you!
“A Web of Sites for The People and The Planet”
I like “Websites that help you do good, and do well.” simple, elegant, clear.
For your tagline I’d prefer short and simple: “Websites done right”, or at least something similar. “Do Good Design” is a cute phrase itself, imo the tagline should echo that quality without being redundant.
hi Rachel
You’re right - it’s not easy to find something simple that sums it up and yet the best tag lines are beautifully simple.
